In sports as in life, anything can happen

I would not call it the biggest upset ever, but you have got to hand it to the New York Giants for beating the oh-so-close-to-being-perfect New England Patriots in last night’s Super Bowl 42. What a finish to what truly was a tame game all throughout. Its hard to imagine the emotions, nerves and energy that run through each player’s body and mind during a game of such magnitude. For the Patriots, a win puts them in the history books as only the 2nd team in NFL history to win every game in the entire season including the Super Bowl. For the Giants, its quarterback Eli Manning winning the Super Bowl the year after his older quarterback brother Peyton Manning, won the Super Bowl with his Indianapolis Colts.

In sports, anything can happen. And that’s the beauty of sports. You just can’t script it. You can hype it up all you want, make predictions and throw around all those stats – but in the end it’s a split second fumble or error that can change the outcome of a game. Sports are like that – anything at anytime could throw you a curveball, crushing any hopes for victory, frustrating all the planning and preparation leading up to that big game. But like the greatest player ever in the history of the NBA once said, “If I miss that last second shot, what can I do? As long as I know that I did everything possible to put me in that position to take that shot, then let the outcome be in God’s hands”.

In life, it rolls the same way. What we do day in day out in preparation for the big life wins is what truly defines us. Self empowerment, eating healthy and exercising regularly to name a few will always put us in the better off position. It will place us in the zone that when we accomplish something great, people call us lucky. It’s the hard work, the discipline and the consistency behind the scenes that propels us into the right opportunity to snap up victory OR let it slip between our fingers. But hey, that’s life. You win some, you lose some. Nothing is perfect. Not even the Patriots season. But at least they did everything humanly possible to put themselves in that position, that opportunity, to win it all.
